Enugu PDP candidates face disqualification suit ruling today.

Today, the Federal High Court in Enugu will rule on the case filed by Chika Idoko, the Enugu North candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In case number FHC/EN/CS/217/2022, the plaintiff (Idoko) had filed suit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and 36 other PDP candidates in Enugu State.

Idoko argued that while PDP submitted its register to INEC on May 6, 2022, it proceeded with its primary polls without providing the required 21-day notice, in violation of the Electoral Act of 2022.

In light of the fact that the PDP held its primary fewer than 21 days after receiving the ADC's letter to INEC, the candidate for the ADC's senate candidacy argued that the party violated a key requirement in the nomination process and asked the court to disqualify the PDP's primary.

However, Chief Nana Ogbodo, the spokesman for the PDP Campaign Council in the state, stated that the party is unconcerned with the court proceedings, which followed Idoko's lawsuit.

Ogbodo stated that the court would be interested in how the PDP nomination process affects the plaintiff's candidacy, emphasising that the PDP has evolved beyond elementary errors.

In a statement, the plaintiff expressed optimism that INEC would remove the recognition of the listed candidates while lamenting that PDP leaders in the state have been racing from pillar to post in an attempt to discredit the narrative.

"Without prejudice to the ongoing case before the court, it has come to our attention that desperate politicians are conspiring to fabricate spurious issues and papers in order to confuse the court and subvert justice," he stated.

"I, Idoko, the senatorial candidate for ADC for the Enugu North Senatorial District, in fulfilment of my commitment to do good and save Enugu State, launched an action to disqualify PDP candidates in the state from running in the general elections of 2023 for violating the Electoral Act of 2022,"

Since he initiated the case, he observed, there have been threats and intimidation, but he remains sure that the truth will ultimately win.
