Residents and landlords in the business center of Onitsha, Anambra State, have challenged Pillars Energy Ltd.'s plans to construct a liquid petroleum gas/petrol station in their neighborhood.

The state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has received a petition from over 70 residents of Creek Road, Gunning Street, and Arondizogu Street, Fegge, Onitsha, pleading with him to step in and halt construction as well as look into how it was authorized.

Residents asked why any authority could have granted the license and approval to site such a project, which could create disaster in the neighborhood, in a complaint letter addressed to the governor.

Awka-based coordinator of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the state's commissioner for the environment, commissioner for land use and survey, the director/chief fire office of the Anambra State Fire Service, and the chairman of the Anambra State Urban Development Board (ASUDEB) were also copied on the protest letter.
