In the last week, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) set limits on how much money people could take out of ATMs. Nigerians had a range of reactions to this.
Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, said on Saturday that the youths supported the apex bank in a statement.
Okwu scolded members of the National Assembly for kicking against the policy and said that corruption was fighting back.
He said, "At a time when the economy is in bad shape, Nigerians should back any plan to stop the naira from falling." The limit on how much cash you can take out is a good way to handle money.
"We, the young Igbo people, are strongly in favour of the policy because it would help fight corruption in Nigeria, which has been going on for a long time.
"We are also sure that it will help keep the exchange rate stable and bring down inflation."
"Also, the market is bad for all voters." As Nigerians get ready for the election in 2023, everyone who has been saving money to buy voters must be feeling bad right now.
Okwu pointed out that there were other long-term benefits "that would help secure the future of our children and youth" and asked the National Assembly to stop fighting against the policies.
He said that in the long run, most people would gain from it.
