Bakare, the Presiding Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (previously Latter Rain Assembly), was among those who battled Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the Special Presidential Convention of the party last year.
In his Sunday state-of-the-nation speech, the cleric warned Nigerians to shun people pushing "emilokan," a term linked with Tinubu that means "my turn" in Yoruba.
He stated that no good leader seeking the support of the people would avoid public debates and delegate the responsibility of answering questions addressed at him to his team.
Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, Director, Special Media Projects/New Media of the PCC, stated, "Bakare received zero votes at the convention."
Mr. Dele Alake, the Special Adviser for Media, Communications, and Public Affairs at the PCC, stated that the imam is a political novice.
"This man made a video in his church urging his congregation to vote for Tinubu, and the next day he did the reverse." That is not a big concern for us.
Mr. Alake stated, "With all due respect, he is a political paperweight and a political novice."
Alake further refuted claims that the PCC now conducts a militia led by Mr. Dayo Israel, the National Youth Leader of the Party.
He stated that the gang calls themselves the "Jagaban Vanguard" and that they just wear costumes, not military uniforms.
"In Nigeria, we like titles. There are musicians with the titles of General, Colonel, and Commander. Do we now say that they are posing as military personnel?" he questioned.
