The Nigerian military has deployed troops at entry and departure points in and around Onitsha, Anambra State.

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a member of the Nigerian Navy, thus the military are searching vehicles and combing places.

In addition to an undetermined number of civilians, Lieutenant IS Ozuowa was kidnapped at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

He was en route to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) OLOGBO from Port Harcourt, the state capital of Rivers.

Last Friday, the officer was discharged to attend his Long Course programme.

A member of the military revealed that Ozuowa and others were ambushed in the Upper Iweka region of Onitsha.

Own Quick Response Force (QRF) was promptly deployed. The officer is currently being rescued, a source told PRNigeria.

Ozuowa issued a distress signal to Slt Bomadi, the Base Operations Officer of Naval Outpost (NOP) Onitsha, at the time of the occurrence.

The superior then notified military personnel stationed at checkpoints along various roads to remain vigilant.
