According to sources, thieves who specialise in stealing clothing, food, and other commodities climb treetops and observe the victim's property and movement before committing a crime.
The thieves, according to one of the victims at Umuegbu, Ngo Nnobi in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, yesterday, Jonah Ugonwamadu, operate in the early morning hours and on days when people are permitted to stay at home. Additionally, the thieves catch their victims off guard when they are at work, according to Jonah Ugonwamadu.
"Yesterday, after returning from a family event at the Civic Center, I found my home robbed and my money and things stolen. Even my pot of Jolof rice and other food items were stolen, bemoaned Ugonwanmadu.
Other outlets lamented the loss of important property to the thieves, including mobile phones, money, and other valuables.
This is occurring despite police efforts to eradicate crime in Nnewi, Awka, Awka-Etiti, Ozubulu, Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnobi, and other sections of the state where security operations patrol daily as part of their ongoing war against crime in Anambra.
Mascot Nwankwo, a resident of Adazi-Ani in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, attributed the alleged increase in crime in Anambra and the Southeast in general to the incessant Monday sit-at-home in the geopolitical zone, which had drained the economy.
Nwankwo lamented that the sit-in had bred criminality among the youths, who had turned to kidnap, armed robbery, and other vices.
