As the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate greeted people and took photos, one could feel their love and desire for a better Nigeria. Igwe C.A.O. Muoghalu, Isuofia's traditional monarch, said, "We love him."
As in Isuofia, so elsewhere Obi has travelled. Philanthropy, record, expertise, and character are his strengths. His opponents have been sweating since May 2022, when he became Labour's leader. Obi's major opponents continue to cover their agony with hair, like a goat.
Anambra's former governor isn't looking back. His campaign to become Nigeria's president has gained ground. Obi was named 2022 Leadership Excellence Awards "Man of the Year" Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora voted over a 14-day period for the Leadership Excellence Awards. Igbere TV had online polling. Obi beat out BUA Group founder Abdul Rabiu and musician Davido. The distinguished yearly award, backed by the African Union and African Film Institute, honours Nigeria's political, social, and economic leaders.
Obi was also nominated for Man of the Year by Alltimepost.com, The newspaper's executives stated Obi was a watershed in Nigeria's political history. "In Peter Obi's candidature, we see fairness, inclusiveness, equity, justice, and a people-driven transformative agenda," the newspaper wrote.
Obi and his 'Obidient Movement' were crowned THE WILL's 'Person of the Year 2022' The newspaper's management chose Obi and 'Obidient Movement' to "promote a new vision for true change." According to the publication, Peter Obi is an Igbo, but the Obidient Movement is not. Since May 2022, when he became the LP's presidential candidate, he's grown in stature and many Nigerians perceive him as a distinct politician from the status quo.
No better wording exists. So many notable Nigerians support him. Olusegun Obasanjo's support leads the pack. Obi is the best Nigerian leader, he says. Young Nigerians should cease inheriting preconceptions and enemies, he said.
In a recent open letter to young Nigerians, Obasanjo said, "None of the contestants is a saint, but when one compares their character, antecedent, understanding, knowledge, discipline, and vitality, and the great efforts required to stay focused on the job, especially looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as a mentee has an edge." Others, like us, can contribute to the new dispensation to free, restore, and save Nigeria. Peter is a needle with thread from North to South and won't get misplaced.
Chief Edwin Clark followed. Obi would unite the country, he asserted. Chief Afe Babalola agreed. He said Obi was most equipped to lead Nigeria and the only people opposed to him were those who helped plunge the country into its current mess.
Pa Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Afenifere, endorsed the Labour Party candidate before the current endorsements, imploring Nigerian youths not to vote for their misfortune's builders.
Obi is, all things considered, the candidate to beat in this race. He's topped recent polls. NOI Polls and Atedo N.A. Peterside (ANAP) Foundation conducted such polls. In a recent survey, Obi beat the candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), and the other 14 presidential contenders.
Politics hasn't prevented him from philanthropy. On Christmas Day, he visited IDPs in Makurdi and gave them N3 million. Governor Samuel Ortom said he was the first presidential candidate to do so. Others came to engage in political activities but have little empathy for the over eight IDP camps. On New Year's Day, Obi visited the Wassa IDP Camp in Apo, FCT, where he donated food and N1.5 million.
Obi is hardworking. Sometimes he visited three to four states in one day. One wonders how much he sleeps. He's hurting himself. His two grown children live alone. He's helping Nigeria. He promotes production as a way to alter the country.
Obi is not only the man of the year, but also the man of the decade for transforming Nigeria's political trajectory and being faithful to himself amid opposition and political misfits. On February 25, 2023, Nigerians will clink glasses and shout, "Nigeria, we hail thee!"
