He noted, however, that the defection of the party's candidate for governor in the July 16, 2022, election in Osun State will have no effect on Obi's chances in the state.
Saturday, prior to the party's presidential campaign rally in Osogbo, Tanko stated that Obi's chances of becoming Nigeria's next president are greater than those of other contenders.
"We are unaffected by Lasun Yusuf's departure from the Labour Party to the Peoples Democratic Party, as we have established our organisation over time. Immediately following Lasun's defection, the party has returned to revitalise the party's organisation throughout the State.
"The structure of which we speak consists of youngsters, craftsmen, the NLC, the TUC, pensioners, the common man who has not been served for decades, and the downtrodden masses. These structures have been fortified in preparation for the upcoming general election for Peter Obi in 2023.
"Of all the presidential candidates, only Obi has the trust of Nigerians; he is the only candidate who is not buying votes, and you can see the love youngsters and Nigerians have for him by how much they are spending on his campaign.
"Obi possesses talent, integrity, compassion, and dedication to the nation. He has been able to transform consumption into output into a mantra. He is the only governor to leave N75 billion in State government grants.
"We are seizing Freedom Park in the heart of Osogbo for Obi's campaign. In Osun State, there are numerous Peter Obi support groups, and over 71% of Nigerian youngsters back him, he stated.
