Medical Rescue Services To Be Established In Anambra

Dr. Ben Afam Obidike, commissioner for health in the state of Anambra, has announced the government's intention to establish emergency medical services this year in an effort to eliminate needless fatalities.

Obidike disclosed this at his country home in the Akwaeze Anaocha local government area of the state during her annual cultural festival. He noted that the current administration of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo intends to replicate the nature of international emergency response services in Anambra state in order to save lives.

The Commissioner, who indicated that the State Health Policy Development would be released in January, insisted that Ambulance Services would be activated this month and that the state's official toll-free number, 112, is operational.

He also stated that the Computer Rooms for the Emergency Ambulance System are ready, and that anyone in Anambra state in severe need of assistance can contact 112 to have an ambulance dispatched to their location.

The government has decided to save lives by introducing ambulance services with a toll-free number regardless of the location or distance of the emergency, according to Obidike, who stated that it has been discovered that people die in accidents even at home and that the government has decided to do so going forward.

According to him, the emergency medical response services will be driven by the private sector, and 22 hospitals have already expressed strong interest in ambulances and are prepared to handle the emergency medical response services.

Although the Commissioner expressed misgivings that the state's health centres are not where they should be, he stated that the current state government is formulating methods to ensure that the state's health facilities reach a level of trustworthiness.

According to the Commissioner, Anambra cannot have hospitals without physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other personnel, hence Governor Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has hired over 300 individuals for the health sector.
