A suspect, identified as 21-year-old Sunday Chukwu, was taken into custody by police operatives serving in the Awkunanaw Division of the Enugu metropolitan area, with support from the Neighbourhood Watch Group. The suspect was wanted for unauthorised possession of a pistol and ammunition.

During a surveillance and patrol operation that took place on Saturday night at about 9:30 p.m., the authorities found the suspect in possession of one locally produced pistol along with one live cartridge.

This is according to a statement that was released on Monday by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who is the spokesman for the Enugu police department.

The things that were found were going to be used, as the police have stated, by the suspect and his accomplices in order to carry out their illegal activities throughout the holiday season.

According to the statement released by the police, "this demonstrates that the 2022 Yuletide security and safety strategy that was developed by the Enugu state police command has started showing fruits in a favourable direction."

It was also mentioned that additional covert investigation was being conducted into the case.

According to a statement made by the Enugu police command, "however, operational, investigational, and intelligence gathering efforts that are targeted towards actualizing maximum security and safety in the state have been enhanced."
