On the weekend, the delivery of the teen girl was talked about on social media, which led the Commissioner to go look for her. She was found in a hospital that wasn't named. She was being held there because she couldn't pay a hospital bill.
The ministry said that a team from the ministry rescued the teenage mother and took her to a safe place after asking her about what led to her situation.
In the interview, she said that her guardian, whom she called Mr. Sunday, put her in the family way. The girl, whose real parents live in Agulu, Anambra State, but are from Akwa Ibom, said that Mr. Sunday had a habit of defiling children.
"Mr. Sunday's wife is called Madam Ghana. This all started when Madam Ghana came to the village. I'm not the only one involved. Mr. Sunday also slept with a seven-year-old girl.
"I told Madam Ghana about it once, and she told her husband to be careful, but when it kept happening, I couldn't do much."
The ministry's spokesperson, Miss Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, said that the person who did it, Mr. Sunday Muoghalu, has been caught.
Ikeanyionwu said that the person who did it had been caught and would soon be charged.
She said that the Commissioner for Women and Children's Welfare had said that the Anambra State government would not allow such an immoral act, and that the government would make sure that as many people as there are who do such things don't get away with it.
Mr. Muoghalu, who is 75 years old, was also said to have admitted to getting the girl pregnant, though he said he didn't mean to.
Ikeanyionwu said, "He said he was just messing around with the girl and had no idea she was pregnant."
