Enugu council chairman denies corruption allegation

The Executive Chairman of Nsukka Council, Enugu State, Walter Ozioko, has characterized his purported return of N100 million in Paris Club monies to the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as political enemies' lies.

Ozioko indicated in a statement that the accusation was an attempt by his adversaries to undermine his work in the Nsukka Council, destroy his reputation, and win cheap political points. "My attention has been directed to a phony publication by pranksters alleging erroneously that I returned N100 million to Ugwuanyi as part of a made-up Paris Club Fund," he stated. "Having found no angle to attack me, these mischief-makers have turned to cheap, fake, and unverifiable lies against the governor and myself and are altering the narratives of this government on all fronts." These devil's agents have chosen the path of shame by speaking lies that could only have originated in hell. "To capitalize on President Muhammadu Buhari's outburst, in which he accused some governors of diverting money from the Paris Funds without authorization, these sycophants shouted negative things about Ugwuanyi and myself. To set the record right, it should be noted that neither the state government nor any other level of government ever demanded that money be remitted or returned to them, nor did Nsukka Council ever remit or return any amount of money to any level of government. Ugwuanyi is one of the few governors who, despite having little resources at his disposal, administered the Paris Fund and the activities, projects, and interventions of the Ozioko in the council transparently."
