According to the opposition party, Imo people need political actors to explain why the governorship mandate they overwhelmingly gave to their preferred candidate in 2019 was brutally snuffed out by the Supreme Court.
According to a statement issued by the party's Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Collins Opurozor, the fear is that either their votes will not be counted or their votes will not be counted.
While emphasising the importance of addressing voter apathy ahead of the 2023 general election, the PDP claimed that the state is at the bottom of the voter registration and PVC collection ladder.
According to the press release, "it is a psychological problem." When people believe that their votes no longer matter or that the mandates that public officeholders parade are effectively dubious and unearned, the result is alienation, which manifests itself in low voter registration and PVC collection.
"Restitution and confidence-building are required." This is the root cause of the apathy you're referring to.
