Many Injured As Truck Runs Into Bus In Anambra

On Tuesday, a speeding truck allegedly collided with a bus in the Onitsha area of Anambra State, injuring at least 39 passengers to varying degrees.

The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, who confirmed the incident, said the accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on the Onitsha-Enugu expressway.

According to reports, the truck, which had no registration number, was travelling at high speeds when it lost control of its wheel and collided with a Mercedes 608 bus with the licence plate ENU355 UJ.

The bus somersaulted and crashed. "Fourty-two persons, comprising 18 male adults and 24 female adults, were in the bus," Irelewuyi said.

The accident involving 42 passengers caused injuries to fifteen male adults and 24 female adults in varying degrees.

The injured victims were reportedly rushed to Amaku Teaching Hospital by officials of the FRSC from RS5.3 Awka for medical treatment.

Irelewuyi said no fatalities were recorded, but the incident resulted in gridlock.
