National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents prevented drug gangs from importing 126.95 kilograms of cocaine and skunk concealed in herbal tea packages and imported vehicles from Brazil and Canada through the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and the Tincan seaport, respectiv

In a statement released on Sunday by the agency's spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, it was stated that anti-drug officers at the Enugu airport intercepted a male traveler, Eze Ikenna, 42, arriving from Brazil through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Friday about 12:30 p.m.

Babafemi stated that a search of his two bags uncovered 19 large sachets of herbal tea, which were later determined to be cocaine totalling 16.2 kilograms.

He added that "a joint examination of a container marked TCLU 7799237 from Montreal, Canada at Sifax Okota Bonded Terminal by NDLEA agents assigned to Tincan Command led to the discovery of 110.75 kilograms of Cannabis Indica concealed in two of the four vehicles in the container: a 2011 Toyota Sienna and a 2011 Honda Pilot SUV."

Babafemi continued, "The agency's efforts to reduce access to illicit opioids again bore fruit on Tuesday, when a shipment of tramadol that NDLEA agents had been tracking for several months was finally traced to a warehouse in the Greenfield Estate, Amuwo Odofin neighborhood of Lagos. When the store opened, 1,645,560 tramadol 100mg, 200mg, and 225mg tablets were collected.

"Another 60,000 tablets of tramadol 250mg were collected from a wanted drug dealer, Diugwu Alphonsus, in the Bariga region of the state on the same day, while searches conducted in the Akala area of Mushin on Wednesday, January 18th, and Friday, January 20th, yielded 781.7 kg of cannabis."

Also in Osun State, on Friday, NDLEA agents arrested Aliyu Adebiyi, a 67-year-old blind grandfather whose home contained 234 kilograms of cannabis in Sokoto village, Owena Ijesa, Atakumosa East Local Government Area.

According to his statement, a drug dealer kept the shipment with him for a monthly cost of N6,000 and paid for three months in advance.

Babafemi further claimed that Haruna Abdullahi, a 45-year-old leper infamous for drug selling, was detained in Garko town, Kano, on Thursday, together with 2.2 kilograms of cannabis and varied quantities of Diazepam and Exol.

He also stated that no less than 370 kilograms of cannabis were recovered from a sawmill in Ilale, Owo, Ondo State, when operatives stormed the industrial plant based on credible intelligence, and in Edo State, 261 kilograms of the illicit substance were seized from a suspect, Uche Monday, at Uneme-Osu, Ososo Road in the Akoko Edo area of the state, with an additional 74 kilograms removed from a bush

Monday, NDLEA agents stormed the Lugbe area of the FCT in Abuja based on solid information that a drug dealer was operating in a batcher on the outskirts of the city.

A search of the batcher led to the seizure of 42.9 kilograms of cannabis, 15 grams of cocaine, 137 grams of methamphetamine, and N2,148,500 in cash, all of which are suspected to be proceeds of illegal activity.

In response to the seizures and arrests made by the Lagos, AIIA, Tincan, Osun, Kano, Ondo, Edo, and FCT Commands in the past week, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (ret.), commended all the officers involved in the operations and urged them and their compatriots across the country to remain resolute and focused on winning the war against substance abuse and illicit drug
