The MLSCN Registrar, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, advised the new inductees at the weekend induction ceremony held at the University Auditorium to prioritize human lives before financial gain and to always respect the principles and code of conduct of the profession.
Erhabor, who was represented by Dr. Greg Uchunor, Director of Professional Regulations and Discipline, reminded them of the distinctiveness and sensitivity of their profession and urged them to practice with dedication and reverence for God.
He raised concern that some medical laboratory scientists, particularly recently certified ones, have a tendency to downplay accurate reports of diagnosis and saving lives in favor of making money.
Importantly, you must always avoid any forms of professional misconduct and follow the ethical norms that define our profession, he added.
"The council has zero tolerance for any sort of unethical behavior and will not allow anyone to bring its or the profession's reputation into discredit."
"Some pioneers of the profession made great sacrifices and paved the route for you to attain your goals. You can also contribute to this illustrious tradition by upholding the dignity of your profession."
