The Nigerian military confirmed that credible and acceptable elections will be held in the South East Region, namely in Ebonyi State.

Lt. Col. Sunday Atomode, Commanding Officer of the 24 Support Engineering Regiment, made the announcement while interacting with reporters in Abakaliki. at the Nkwagu military cantonment, located on the Abakaliki -Afikpo road, when members of the NUJ Correspondent Chapel paid a courtesy call.

He stated, "Elections will be held peacefully in Ebonyi State." Those who assert that there would be no elections in Ebonyi State and the South East do not possess the resources necessary to subdue the military and other security agencies in the state.

"We assure the public that the election will go place. We already have planning for a smooth and peaceful election in the state."

Further, Atomode announced that the Military is prepared to collaborate with the Department of State Security, the Nigeria Police, and other security agencies to tackle crime in the thirteen local government areas of Ebonyi State.

He stated that the military will increase combined patrols with other security personnel to ensure that the state is free from crime.

"We have conducted combined operations at several of these criminals' hideouts. We have successfully eliminated the training camp of the criminals in a number of locations, including the Egedegede woodland, Obegu in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state, and other sites.

"We will continue to do more on other sectors where these evil elements are lurking, and we will be able to fish them out and remove them so that we have a secure atmosphere before to the general elections in 2023," he said.
