Presidency: Latest poll predicts Obi's first-round win.

Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), will receive more than 73 percent of the votes cast in the February 25 election, according to a survey conducted by a global group of Nigerian professionals of diverse political persuasions committed to good governance thr

The group identified by the abbreviation TEIC conducted a study of the leading candidates, stating that its main purpose was to assess the impact of the top four presidential candidates on popular culture, public value systems, perceptions, and emotions thus far.

In a study released on Friday, TEIC stated, "We had no aim of predicting vote intentions in the upcoming February elections. Our main purpose was to assess the influence of the top four presidential contenders on popular culture, public value systems, perceptions, and emotions thus far. It can also be referred to as a measure of the candidates' emotional connection with the general people.

"Voting intentions are a completely distinct and more intricate phenomenon. It is possible to like someone yet not vote for them, for example if they are deemed inexperienced or otherwise unqualified for a position. Therefore, likeability may have a role in determining who individuals ultimately vote for, but it is not the only factor that influences voting behavior.

A subheading titled "Survey Question Rationale" stated: "A single question was presented to all respondents in this survey: As a parent, which of these four presidential contenders would you most like your child to become?

It is considered that Nigerian parents desire the best for their children, as do parents everywhere else. Consequently, they would want their children to develop personalities that most closely resemble their conception of a role model.

"The question may also refer to respondents' "pride in association," "character dispositions," "compatible family values," or "feeling of success."

Regarding Methodology and Data Collection, the group stated that WhatsApp Poll was used to perform the study.

Meta noted that WhatsApp Poll is a straightforward, digital, smartphone-based poll application hosted by the WhatsApp messaging platform. It provides immediate, real-time results.

"Our inquiry was posed on WhatsApp group platforms with only Nigerian adults as members." Multiethnic, multireligious, and multiprofessional affiliations were essential. In other words, cultural variety is required. Our researchers headquartered in Abuja, Lagos, Kano, and New York deliberately picked ten (10) groups that fit these requirements (to cover Diaspora Nigerians). However, the locations of chat group participants were not confined to the cities listed. In contrast, since chat group membership is virtual, they were frequently dispersed around Nigeria and the world. Participation was purely optional."

TEIC reported that a total of 156 correctly filled replies were collected between January 11 and January 14, 2023, and that data collection, processing, and reporting occurred between January 15 and January 17, 2023.

It was stated that the findings were as follows:

Candidates' Name Raw Score Percentage

Bola Tinubu: 20 (12.8%)

Atiku Abubakar: 10 (6.4%)

Peter Obi: 114 (73.1%)

Rabiu Kwankwaso: 12 (7.7%)

Total = 156 (100%)

"As of mid-January 2023, the results indicate that 73.1% of respondents would wish their own children to turn out like Labour Party member Peter Obi. In descending order, Bola Tinubu of the APC, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP follow.

"The Labor Party candidate performed admirably in all ten WhatsApp groups surveyed. He won certain competitions and shared the spotlight with his opponents in others. Other candidates performed admirably in some groups, but failed in others.

"When compared to earlier released poll results (which evaluated a different variable — voting intentions), the following patterns emerge: Bola Tinubu comes in second, followed by Peter Obi. Obi appears to be gaining a larger advantage over the other individual. This could indicate that Peter Obi's personal charisma and soft power influence more people than his political convictions.

At the opposite end of the scale, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP is slightly ahead of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, according to this study. This signals a reversal in fortunes, as Atiku Abubakar was frequently believed to be ahead of Rabiu Kwankwaso in past surveys (on voting intentions). How relevant could this be — statistically and on election day? Clearly, additional effort is required."

Regarding Limitations, the report stated:

"With a sample size of only 156 individuals, taken from 10 online chat groups, and solely among smartphone users, this survey cannot claim to be accurate.

"Many members of surveyed WhatsApp groups did not participate. It is possible that they did not see the survey questions, are unsure, do not want their children to be like any of the four options presented, or do not wish to reveal their preferences. Thus, there are still numerous individuals whose perspectives are not represented here. A substantially larger sample, with a broader geographic distribution, and including non-smartphone users, could have produced significantly different results."

It should be evaluated in conjunction with other survey data as a qualitative measure of public impressions of the personal charm of candidates at the time of the study, according to TIEC.

TIEC expressed hope that candidates and their campaign managers will be able to fine-tune their strategy for the last weeks of electioneering with the use of Snapchat outlines, despite the fact that political events can change rapidly.
