In preparation for the general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun vetting workers in three senatorial zones of Enugu State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that INEC has scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for February 25 and the gubernatorial and state assembly elections for March 11.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Chukwu, told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) in Enugu on Friday that screening was simultaneously occurring in all three senatorial zones.

According to Chukwu, the exercise will last four days, beginning on January 19 and ending on January 22.

"The screening/verification of documents for the online-applied ad hoc personnel for the 2023 election has begun.

"The practice is taking place at three different INEC local government area (LGA) offices, one for each of the state's senatorial districts.

"For Enugu-East Senatorial Zone, screening is taking place at the INEC office in Enugu North LGA, and for Enugu-West, screening is taking place at the INEC office in Udi LGA.

"The screening for the Enugu-North Senatorial District is being conducted at the INEC office in Nsukka LGA," he added.

The REC stated that the process had proceeded without hiccups and that "applicants are reacting favourably with screening requirements."

"In February, shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in training," Chukwu added.
