The fire, which broke out about 2 a.m., destroyed houses worth millions of dollars.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Ahmed Idris, an inhabitant of one of the rooms, claimed he and other victims from other families were fast sleeping when the tragedy occurred.
He claimed that the inferno damaged his certificates, laptop, and equipment, despite individual efforts to put it out.
"I started hearing explosions in the early hours of the day when I was still sleeping," he explained. I believe the fire was started by a spark from electrical connections in one of the apartment's rooms.
"Aside from my phone, all of my certificates, laptop, and a complex (DI) equipment were destroyed in the disaster, which inhabitants struggled to extinguish."
Agozie Anakor, son of the building's proprietor, explained that the blaze was sparked by gas cylinders in the room where the fire began.
He went on to say that if it hadn't been for the residents' efforts, the fire would have spread to other surrounding buildings.
He appealed to the public for assistance in mitigating the effects of the inferno, since properties worth millions of naira were destroyed before relief could arrive.
"Gas cylinders in the room where the event began aided in escalation, but without individual efforts, the fire would have spread to other buildings nearby," he continued.
