The Youth Wing of the Association of Anambra State Town Unions (ASATU) has stated its commitment to ensuring a peaceful election in the state.

This was stated by the Association during a meeting with the management of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday in Awka.

Mr Ken Okoli, National President of ASATU-Youth Wing, stated that the organisation would employ its structures across the state's 179 villages to protect electoral officers and materials.

He stated that Anambra youth will not allow anti-democratic elements and adversaries to reject or undermine the state's people's right to vote.

"ASATU-Youth and indeed Anambra youths are ready, we are dedicated to a peaceful election, and we will work with INEC to ensure that the electoral process is protected," he said.

"We will show others the light because we are the Light of the Nation," he declared.

Dr Elizabeth Agwu, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra, stated that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials would be deployed early during the poll.

Agwu regarded youths as the most important beneficiaries of good governance, with the ability to influence election outcomes, and urged them not to risk their future and destiny for peanuts.

She praised the youths for their enormous turnout during the voter registration drive and advised them to ensure it was reflected in the election results by voting on election day.

"It would interest you to note that youths/middle-aged (18-50 years) compose over 70 million out of 93 million votes that will decide the election.

"This indicates that you will greatly impact the election outcome if this amount is transformed into votes for any of your favourite candidates.

"Therefore, I urge you to constitute yourselves into the INEC vanguard for free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.

"Say no to all types of vices and oppose those who stand against peaceful election as this works against your destiny and lifetime prospects.

"INEC is prepared, unafraid, and has pledged to hold free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in Anambra State and throughout Nigeria," she stated.
