Enugu 2023: AAC candidate pledges to raise minimum wage to N50,000

Ray Ogbodo, the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for governor in Enugu State, stated before to the March governorship election that, if elected, he would increase the minimum pay for state employees from N30,000 to N50,000.

Ogbodo stated at a town hall meeting in Enugu that he would not only boost the minimum salary, but also ensure that all civil servants would receive the increment.

Rolling out his 'Hope for Enugu People' Five-Point Agenda, which included healthcare, opportunity, prosperity, education, and security, Ogbodo assured the people that he would bring massive infrastructure to the state to pull people out of poverty, and that his administration would provide all Enugu residents with free healthcare and the chance to excel.

"The primary issue plaguing Enugu is poor leadership and governance. Because we are coming from a different perspective and that is what we want to do to assist Enugu state. We desire greater resourcefulness. It is not a matter of resources, but of resourcefulness and commitment to complete the task," the candidate added.

"There are resources and an abundance of everything everywhere to accomplish it, but a small number of individuals have appropriated and are sharing it among a small number of privileged people, whereas we want to distribute it to a large number of people.

"I am come to be transparent so that I can give the people what is rightfully theirs, as what belongs to the people has been appropriated by the few. Assuming we win and are sworn in, we will implement the minimum wage on June 1st, if we are elected.

"We will pay workers a minimum wage of N50,000 because we do not have a corrupt mind, no godfather, and we did not pay N15 billion for a race ticket. Do not believe them when they say there is no money in the state of Enugu. The state of Enugu is wealthy. It's just that the mentality is lacking. Because the money belongs to the people and not an ally, we want to ensure that any allocation that comes to Enugu would be handled prudently.

"We intend to eradicate the corrupt practises of money-sharing and godfatherism. Because leadership is about serving the people and not dividing their wealth with a few allies, we want to ensure that the people receive what is rightfully theirs.

"We are prepared to alter Enugu so that the masses, not just a few allies, gain. The citizens of Enugu should attempt to vote out the same individuals who have been dividing the people's money among themselves."
