Members of numerous civil society organisations in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, have raised the alarm over the threat to their lives and safety, as the Nigerian Army has purportedly laid siege to their meeting location.

They claimed that soldiers attacked the location of their Sunday evening meeting in the state capital.

In a security alert issued by the President of the International Solidarity for Peace and Human Rights Initiative, Comrade Osmond Ugwu, it is alleged that one Emmanuel Acha brought soldiers to intimidate and harass them during a meeting at the Dragon Recreation Centre, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu, where they were discussing a progressive course for civil society organisations.

Ugwu accused Acha of using CSOs in the state for his own selfish purposes and those of his supporters.

He stated, "Alert on the invitation of troops to civil society organisations in Enugu State."

"I wish to alert the civil society community in Nigeria and the international community that we are under siege by soldiers invited by one Emmanuel Acha to intimidate and harass us during a meeting to discuss a progressive course for civil society organisations in Enugu State, which is taking place at the Dragon Recreation Centre, 82 Division Enugu.

"Emmanuel Acha has been using CSOs in the state of Enugu for his own selfish purposes, with the support of a few individuals.

"As of now, we are surrounded by the military he invited, and our lives and safety are gravely threatened here and beyond."
