APGA, ADC, PRP blame Enugu's underdevelopment on incompetent leadership.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have blamed incompetent leadership for the underdevelopment of Enugu State.

They announced this on Saturday at De Base Event Centre, Enugu, during a Town Hall meeting organised by Daria Media in cooperation with Coal City Elite Group, Arise TV, and Afia TV for the governorship candidates in Enugu.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Peter Mbah and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart Chijioke Edeoga were noticeably missing.

Since the return of democracy in 1999, according to the candidates for governor of the three political parties, the former and present leaders of Enugu State have led the state to infrastructure ruin and abject poverty.

According to them, change is required to restore the state's past splendour, which was constructed by founding fathers like as former Easter Region Premier Michael Okpara.

Mr. Kene Ogbodo, the ADC candidate for governor, stated that those in authority in the state since 1999 have only succeeded in impoverishing the populace.

Ogbodo indicated that individuals in charge of state affairs lacked good leadership skills and a willingness to confront the state's difficulties.

"Leadership is about service, being visible, and relating to the governed, but state leaders have severed ties with the impoverished masses.

"These powerful people are only skilled at recycling power among themselves, leaving behind infrastructure that will improve the lives of others," he remarked.

He stated that if won in the upcoming election, his administration would alter the status quo and bring about the necessary changes in Enugu.

Chris Agu, the PRP candidate for governor, lamented that people in power had ruined what their founding ancestors, like Michael Okpara, had built and battled for.

Agu stated that in the state, instability, lack of clean water, and nonpayment of pensions and teachers’ wages had become epidemic.

He emphasised that the lack of social amenities had caused hardship and suffering among the state's residents.
