Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has revealed his administration's plan to hold another Local Government election before he leaves office in May of this year.

The governor disclosed this information during the inauguration of new commissioners for the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) in the exco chambers of Government House, Umuahia.

Our Correspondent recalls hints that the state governor may pick a Transition Committee (TC) chairman in the coming weeks to manage the business of state local governments until the 2023 general elections.

As they seek appointment as TC officials for their respective LGAs, party members including former chairman, their deputies, and certain LGA councillors have engaged in strong lobbying, according to sources.

According to him, Prof. Nkpa Agu Nkpa's term as chairman is still in effect, and Mr. Onyekachi Dinneya is the panel's secretary. The commission has been tasked with commencing operations immediately.

Prince Dan Okoli, Onyebinanma Sunday Onyebinanma, Dan Onwutuebe, Henry Okachie Okere, Enyinnaya Ebere, and Mrs. Precious Achumba are the six commissioners.

On behalf of the newly inaugurated ABSIEC Commissioners, the ABSIEC Chairman, Prof. Nkpa Agu Nkpa, and the Secretary of the Commission, Mr. Onyekachi Dinneya, thanked the governor for the team chosen to strengthen the ABSIEC and promised to work more diligently and make the Governor and the State proud.
