According to a source from the neighborhood, Ugochinyere's police orderlies engaged the numerous gunmen in a ferocious fire battle, stopping them from approaching him.
His uncle, who lived nearby, was reportedly slain during the melee, along with two other unidentified individuals.
According to videos viewed by NDIIGBOWORLDWIDE, the gunmen set fire to several homes and vehicles around his dwelling.
The CUPP spokesperson also verified that his uncle had been murdered and that the gunmen had destroyed homes in the region.
On December 24, 2022, NDIIGBOWORLDWIDE stated that armed men had attacked Ugochinyere's convoy, following which he claimed that militias loyal to the Imo State administration were out to kill him.
NDIIGBOWORLDWIDE also reported that the Imo Government had previously asked the police to arrest and question Ugochinyere over the alleged hacking of the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the forgery of a lawyer's signature and stamp used to file a "secret court action" in a Federal High Court in Owerri, to stop the use of the Biometric Voter Accreditation System, BVAS.
Also, NDIIGBOWORLDWIDE said that Ugochinyere shared an allegedly threatening audio discussion with Chinasa Nwaneri, the Special Adviser on Special Duty to Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
Chinasa threatened to imprison Ugochinyere or injure himself on the audio file, saying, "Ugochinyere, I will imprison you. The only objective I have is to confine you. That is what I intend to accomplish. You were fortunate not to visit Owerri on that day. You will witness your confinement."
When Ugochinyere questioned him whether this was what Governor Uzodinma wished to do, Chinasa responded, "Ugochinyere, I wish to accomplish this. I wish to incarcerate you. You decided to brand me a criminal despite the fact that I've never discussed your name in a poor light. If I do not incarcerate you, I shall commit suicide."
