The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Imo State Command, says to have apprehended 21 suspected people traffickers and five illegal migrants in 2022.

Matthew Ovye, commandant of the NSCDC in Imo, said this while delivering his scorecard for 2022 during an enlarged management meeting held at the command's Owerri headquarters.

Mr. Ovye stated that the suspected traffickers were turned over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for prosecution, and that the illegal immigrants were also turned over to the Nigeria Immigration Service authorities in Imo.

He ascribed the accomplishments to the tenacity and dedication of the command's soldiers and advocated for the command's continuation.

The commandant commended the NSCDC's commandant-general, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for fostering an atmosphere conducive to soldiers being in the proper mindset to combat crime and criminality in the state.

He vowed the command's unwavering dedication to the battle against vandalism, human trafficking, illegal migration, and the destruction of vital national assets and infrastructure in the state, including as electrical and telephone infrastructures.

"In 2023, we will restructure our mode of operation to become more professional in the performance of our responsibilities.

"As the general elections approach, I would want to inform you that there will be no tolerance for bribery and corruption, and we will not tolerate any type of compromise on the part of commanders and soldiers," he stated.

Mr. Ovye reassured state citizens of the command's dedication to their safety, while advising criminals to abstain from illegal activity or be prepared to face the law if captured.

Emmanuel Nweze, a constable, praised the commandant for his perseverance on behalf of the officers of the command.

He reassured him of his team's eagerness to work closely with him to achieve more state-wide success.

All Deputy Commandants, Assistant Commandants, Heads of Department, Area Commanders, Heads of Units, and 28 Divisional Officers attended the meeting, including the Divisional Officer in charge of New Owerri Division.
