On Friday, the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance chose Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, as the party's national head.

During a meeting held at the International Convention Centre in Awka, Anambra State, the NEC of the party unanimously elected the governor as the national leader of APGA.

According to a press release headed "Soludo named national leader of APGA by the National Executive Committee of the Party" issued on Friday, this is the case.

According to the statement, after his appointment, the national chairman of the party, Victor Oye, presented Soludo with a certificate of appointment in the presence of all NEC members.

Soludo, while receiving the certificate, remarked that he felt the weight of his ancestors with the appointment, adding that he was honoured to be the third head of the party, following the late Biafra leader, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, and his predecessor, Willie Obiano.

"This has made me humble!” Currently, I feel the weight of history. The APGA is a progressive-only coalition. I feel the weight of our ancestors and those who have lost their lives to ensure our great party's survival.

In the first and second republics, there was a progressive alliance that included the UPN, RPP, and NPP, among others.

"All progressives are distributed around this nation. APGA is the first political party to be registered with the word 'progressives' in its name.

"All progressives call APGA home.” It is an honour to be the third leader in history with two.

"I must pay homage to my predecessors, the Late Sir Chukwuemeka Ojukwu of blessed memory, the first National Leader of APGA; Chief Willie Obiano, my immediate predecessor as the APGA's second leader; and myself.

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria committed to making APGA, which he claimed was the third largest political party in the country, the home of "all progressives in Nigeria."

He stated, "I commit to working every day with all of you, our thronging members, to ensure that all Nigerian progressives recognise APGA as their home.

APGA is the third largest political party in Nigeria and will continue to expand." When the country is prepared, APGA will be there to present Nigeria with the genuine progressivism it wants."

He added, "APGA has the ability to make Nigeria the largest black nation in the world. APGA has the capability of expanding its presence in Nigeria. We have representation in the office of governor, the House of Representatives, and the National House of Assembly.

We are obligated to work very hard to maintain and increase our speed.

"My personal commitment to this fantastic party. After many years of reflection, I arrived at this platform and studied the party's constitution and manifesto. It is the first political party to endorse genuine federalism.

"APGA remains the blueprint for a better Nigeria. Soludo added, "I will uphold the principles and ethics of this party."

The governor of Anambra State said that APGA's policies were centred on the people, claiming that the party made appointments without discrimination and boasted, "We increased employee compensation by 10%. This government is pro-people because that is who we are. Because we care about individuals and leave no one behind, we are progressives.

"We are aiming to supply power 24 hours a day. We're getting begun. Thanks to the installation of 2,000 kilometres of fibre optic lines, people will have access to high-speed Wi-Fi and Internet.

The new national leader of the party further boasted, "APGA will triumph in the coming months," adding, "then the real job will begin. By God's grace, we shall run for every office in the country and win."

The governor praised the party's "excellent leadership," which, he said, "will benefit future generations of APGA followers." We must work hard to protect the reputation and greatness of our party."

Earlier, while inviting members and stakeholders to the APGA's first NEC meeting of the year, the national chairman of the party, Oye, thanked Governor Soludo for allowing him to observe the momentum in the state.

Ozonkpu stated, "Anambra State is synonymous with development, and we pray to God that its leadership remains in place."

"All 36 State Chairmen and BOT Chairmen of the United States are represented here.

"Our party has achieved enormous progress, and all 2022 objectives have been accomplished. In 21 days, we met the criterion for uploading data from ward to national-level APGA candidates, compiled a list of officers, and concluded the procedure.

"APGA was the first political party to satisfy the INEC deadline in advance of the 2019 opening of our functional ICT centre with 55 ports."

He stated, "I can monitor the uploading of party agents in real time on my phone."

"On June 21, 2021, we held our primaries in Awka, and Governor Soludo emerged as the APGA candidate. He went on to win the Anambra State governorship election, and he is now seated with us.

"I've always maintained that nobody can curse a person whom God has blessed. God Almighty would preserve Governor Soludo's life so that he can accomplish his job on Earth," he continued.
