Obi Visits UNN, Urges Students To Join Labour Party To Rescue Nigeria

The Nsukka and Enugu campuses of the University of Nigeria were shut down on Thursday by students who welcomed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

Peter Obi asked students to join the party in order to save Nigeria from poverty, unemployment, and inadequate education financing.

On a campaign swing through Enugu, the presidential contender made a visit at Nsukka, where students and professors flocked to see him.

When a big throng intercepted Obi's convoy and marched with him to the Margaret Ekpo Refectory, where he addressed the public, all other operations came to a halt.

In addition, a large audience greeted the presidential candidate in Enugu, where all commercial and economic activity were suspended.

Our correspondent tells that security forces had difficulty regulating the large throng that gathered in Enugu to see Obi.

Obi stated that the goal of his visit to UNN's Nsukka campus was to enlighten students of his candidature and ask their support in the next general election.

"As a graduate of the prestigious institution, I am here to beg your votes in the upcoming general election so that you can join forces with the Liberal Party to save Nigeria."

"Ensure you have your Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which is your constitutional tool to vote me into power so that we can improve Nigeria and transform it into a productive nation," he stated.

If elected, the LP presidential candidate guaranteed Nigerian students that his administration will put an end to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.

He stated that students paying more than their course years was a result of constant strikes at public colleges.

If I am elected president in the February 25 election, poverty, unemployment, and corruption will cease to exist.

"However, it will also end the ASUU strike in Nigeria; all hands must be on deck to rid our nation of its poor leadership."

"My government will prioritise education as the motor of growth, since no nation can progress beyond its education level," he stated.

Obi advised students to avoid some political parties, adding that "those who claim of having structures only have mechanisms for robbing public monies, corruption, impunity, and the ASUU strike" in reference to LP.

Our purpose is to reclaim Nigeria's leadership from those who have usurped it.

"You and all those who think that with decent leadership, Nigeria can once again function are our structures," he added.

In his remarks, Michael Abuchi, president of the UNN Student Union Government, referred to Obi as a "super lion" who had represented the university with distinction as governor of Anambra State and in all other roles held.
