In an attack on the headquarters of Ihiala Local Government Area in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, gunmen killed four individuals, including vigilantes, and burned five structures, according to the police.

In addition to bombing the council headquarters, the attackers also bombed the council's headquarters.

Thursday at approximately 3 a.m., gunmen reportedly assaulted the local government secretariat with improvised explosive devices (IED), torching approximately five structures and murdering four people.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the event to the media and stated that the police received distress calls and mobilised command personnel to repel the attackers.

According to Ikenga, cops killed one of the gunmen.

Following continuing Police/Military operations in Ihiala and its surrounding town, operatives responded to a distress call at 2:55 a.m., according to a police spokesperson.

One of the attackers was neutralised, and operators seized two locally-made IED lunchers, seven unmarked IEDs, 40 live cartridges, 15 live 7.62MM Ak47 ammo, knives, charms, and other lethal weapons.

The PPRO claimed that by the time the police responded to the SOS, the attackers had already slain three vigilantes on patrol, decapitated one, and set fire to five buildings using an IED and petrol bombs.

He stated, "The joint force operators fought the arsonists/assailants and prevented them from causing additional damage, while some of them escaped with bullet wounds.

"The victims' bodies have been retrieved, and joint activities continue. Ikenga stated that further advancements should be reported.
