The Eastern Security Network and the illegal Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have had 12 insurgents neutralised, according to the Defence Headquarters (ESN).

The Army announced the success between December 22 and today during a press conference on troop activity across Nigeria's six geo-political zones (Thursday).

They were among the rebels terrorising Imo state that were killed.

According to Major-General Musa Danmadami, the Director of Defence Media operations, "troops and other security agents have sustained the offensive against the activities of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminals in the South East zone of the Country."

To that end, troops have been conducting operations in the rural areas, woodlands, and urban centres of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States to bring back peace and normalcy.

In particular, on December 25, 2022, troops and other security agents stormed a suspected Indigenous People of Biafra camp in the Obowo and Aboh Mbiase Local Government Area in Imo State, but the offenders escaped as soon as they saw the army.

"Troops exploited the general area and recovered 1 locally made RPG tube, 3 locally made RPG bombs, 2 AK47 rifles, 2 pump action guns, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special, 58 rounds of MK2 ammo, 9 canisters, 2 AK47 magazines, 2 pump action cartridges, 1 locally made pistol, 1 dane gun, 3 pairs of combat boots, 11 vests, 2 vehicles, and 7 mobile phones."

In addition, Danmadami said, "On the 31st of December 2022, troops had an encounter with the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminals at their roadblock along Owerri Orlu road in Mbatoli Local Government Area of Imo State. After the fight, the military found two AK-47s, twenty 7.62mm NATO bullets, three dynamite sticks, four AK-47 magazines, two FN magazines, and two vehicles.

On the same day, according to the report, "troops attacked a motel along Okigwe-Umahia in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State and detained 16 suspected criminals based on credible intelligence on the convergence of Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network criminals."

Two locally built pump action weapons, two locally made pistols, one brownie pistol, two MK2 magazines, and many other goods were found during a search conducted by the troops.

Four AK-47s, three Dane guns, two pump action guns, one double barrel rifle, two locally produced handguns, and one RPG tube were all found by the military during the time period under consideration. There were also six AK-47 magazines, three FN magazines, two MK2 magazines, fifty-five rounds of MK2 ammunition, twenty rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and forty-three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Eleven body armour pieces, three pairs of combat boots, nine canisters, three dynamites, a boafeng radio, seven Eastern Security Network body armour pieces, nine mobile phones, and three cars were all found.

Soldiers also captured six alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network and killed seven more.

Everything that was found and everyone who was arrested has been turned over to the proper authorities.
