This was disclosed by Umar Ibrahim, the resident electoral commissioner for Gombe, at a Wednesday meeting in Gombe with election preparation stakeholders.
Mr. Ibrahim stated that ensuring the legitimacy of the general elections in 2023 remained a high goal for the commission, which led to the implementation of advanced technologies in previous elections to strengthen the electoral procedures.
According to him, only voters would determine who wins elections in the country when BVAS is implemented.
Mr. Ibrahim stated, "I can promise the good people of the state of Gombe that the days of identity theft during elections are past and that only voters will choose the victor of elections in this country." "There is no doubt that the use of technology has vastly enhanced election administration in this country over the years. During the general elections of 2023, the commission will use BVAS for voter accreditation and transmission of results."
The Returning Officer for Elections stated that Gombe had received the entire complement of BVAS required for the 2023 general election.
Mr. Ibrahim reassured the citizens of Gombe that INEC was prepared to conduct legitimate elections, noting that ten of the fourteen listed tasks had been completed.
He urged all parties involved to play their part in ensuring the smooth conduct of the 2023 elections.
"Free, fair, credible, peaceful, all-inclusive, and accountable elections are the result of deliberate efforts by all stakeholders, not only INEC. "I strongly urge you to join us in opposing the sale and purchase of PVC and the sale and purchase of votes, as they violate democratic norms and values," he stated.
Bitson Simon, chief of the department of information and communications technology and voter registry at INEC's Gombe office, elaborated on BVAS by stating that INEC implemented BVAS as a response to the shortcomings of the card readers used in past elections.
He stated that with BVAS, election day fraud would no longer be conceivable, and that "election by proxy will no longer be possible with BVAS."
