Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, has pledged to make Enugu the manufacturing centre of Nigeria, claiming that the state possesses the resources necessary to serve as the country's economic engine.

Tinubu told party supporters at the Michael Okpara Square presidential campaign event in the state on Wednesday that the state is not only endowed with mineral wealth but also has a climate conducive to national progress.

"Nothing will prevent us from turning this state into a regional manufacturing centre for Nigeria," he declared.

Tinubu lauded the state's citizens for possessing a great deal of skill and demonstrating it wherever they go.

He stated, "Enugu is a state filled with some of the most talented and capable individuals you can find anywhere. You have an informed and forward-thinking perspective. You are imaginative and creative. You are not satisfied with tomorrow being identical to now.

"Incredible mineral deposits are directly beneath your feet. These resources can contribute to economic expansion and recovery. Enugu contains the nation's greatest coal resources. We cannot be hesitant to harness these deposits to power enterprises and illuminate homes.

"The climate here is pleasant. The soil is productive. The state has the potential to become an agricultural powerhouse, producing and exporting a wide variety of cash crops. This will improve our foreign reserves and raise our level of living by creating jobs with higher compensation.

"Let us not forget that Enugu is a leader in the production, assembly, and manufacture of machinery. This area has so much promise. You are a beacon of hope, a light that illuminates the path to a higher and better society."

Tinubu spoke on his plan for Enugu State if he is elected president, while pushing Nigerians who have yet to acquire their Permanent Voter Cards to do so, stating that this is the card that will liberate them and restore their optimism. He stated that he will make Enugu a hub for foreign exports and a tourist destination. Enugu is home to one of the country's oldest football clubs, Enugu Rangers.

"I see a state of Enugu where agriculture is thriving and national and international exports are the norm. I foresee a state where industry and manufacturing are thriving. Where domestic and multinational automobile, heavy machinery and other firms build up assembly plants.

"In this utopian state, tourism will be a significant source of revenue. People will come far and wide to see their beloved teams play at the Nnamdi International Azikiwe Stadium, to enjoy a game of golf at the Enugu Golf Club and to visit the National Museum of Unity.

"I see a state of Enugu in which the brilliant, talented, and hardworking folks standing before me now have access to quality education, inexpensive healthcare, profitable jobs, and genuine chances.

"My industrial master plan favours home producers and manufacturers. My administration will establish a favourable business climate by reducing import tariffs on semi-manufactured inputs required to expand domestic manufacturing. We will offer tax benefits and lower interest rates on business financing. Employer tax credits and on-the-job training will promote youth employment, he continued.

As he had stated in every location he had visited, the APC candidate pledged to safeguard the nation and make it possible for citizens to go about their daily lives without fear.

“I am dedicated to solve insecurity at the state, regional and national levels. Citizens will no longer fear bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. I will boost our security troops, modernise our tactical communications and transportation, and enhance our surveillance and protection of vital locations and infrastructure, such as markets and roadways. Those who aim to cause harm will be pursued relentlessly until they abandon their aggressive ways, he continued.

Regarding the demand for greater state control over resources and law enforcement, he noted, "States require more authority and resources to promote grassroots democracy and development.

"States must have a greater voice in law enforcement. The state police and additional steps would be investigated, he said.

Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and South-East Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign, asked Ndigbo to reconsider their politics, stating that the time has come to tackle the difficulties of the South-east head-on.

Aswáj Tinubu is a courageous leader who can make bold decisions and ensure fairness and justice, he said, adding that the people of the region require such a leader.

"We cannot pursue a vehicle with no tyres. "No matter how much you push it, it will not move," he added.

In a same vein, Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi, who is also the Coordinator for the South region of the campaign, stated that Ndigbo must stand behind the man who can win, noting that the people of the zone "should be obedient to APC and Jagaban and no one else."

The rally was attended by the APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Barrister Emma Enekwu, who stood in for the Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the former governor of AkwaIbom, Senator Godswill Akpabio, the former House of Representatives Speaker Dimeji Bankole and APC National Woman Leader Beta Edu, as well as party chieftains Kashim Ibrahim-I
