The assault began around 1:00 a.m.
The gunmen reportedly fired erratically when they stormed the hamlet, killing four people.
Tuesday, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, issued a statement confirming the occurrence.
Mr. Ikenga, a deputy superintendent of police, stated that the bodies of the victims have been retrieved by police agents.
The police spokeswoman stated that three males and one female were among the victims.
He did not confirm, however, if the victim was pregnant.
"According to preliminary information, the perpetrators, equipped with AK-47 rifles, opened fire indiscriminately and unprovoked, striking four defenceless civilians," Mr. Ikenga stated.
According to him, the victims' corpses have been placed in a mortuary for preservation.
Enhanced attacks Similar to other states in the south-east of Nigeria, the security situation in Anambra State has deteriorated due to frequent attacks by armed individuals.
The attacks frequently target government agencies, officials, and facilities.
The most recent incident occurred in the same council region of the state less than two weeks after militants bombed a police building and released prisoners.
On December 23, gunmen stormed two settlements in the state, kidnapping one and murdering another.
Three weeks ago, two youth organisations in the state announced the capture of more than eighty alleged criminals from their hiding places in the state.
The Nigerian government has blamed the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra for the violent attacks in the region. However, the gang has denied involvement in the attacks on multiple occasions.
The separatist organisation is driving the movement for an independent state of Biafra to be established out of the south-east and sections of the south-south of Nigeria.
