The three Igbo leaders are Ohanaeze Ndigbo's President-General, Professor George Obiozor, the organization's Deputy President, Dr Joel Kroham, and the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amechi.
Kroham went dead on August 30, 2022, while Obiozor and Amechi died on November 1 and December 26, respectively, in the same year.
The former minister was a member of the South-East group that met with the president in 2021 and appealed for the leader of IPOB to be released unconditionally.
In a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the organisation urged President Buhari to honour the deceased elder statesmen for their efforts to secure Kanu's freedom during their lifetimes.
The assertion read: "We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, extend our condolences to the families of Professor George Obiozor, the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, and Dr. Joel Kroham, who passed away after brief illnesses.
"The Igbo family has lost two Iroko trees that provided them with shade. The IPOB has lost members who worked and spoke throughout their lives, demanding the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu.
"Additionally, the movement worked closely with Elder Amaechi Mbazuluike, who passed away on November 1, 2022.
"In the past two months, Ndi Igbo has lost several notable leaders. These individuals requested that Buhari and his APC administration release Kanu.
We continue to encourage the Nigerian government to release Kanu since these magnificent men are now in God's bosom.
"Ndigbo will be very appreciative if the Nigerian government releases Nnamdi Kanu so that peace can reign in the land of the rising sun."
"We prayed that God Almighty, who resides in heaven, would provide the families the fortitude to endure these tragic losses."
