Soludo tasks youth with development

Anambra's governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the state's youths to be good governance and development agents.

Soludo issued the call on Friday in Awka, following the election and installation of the new leadership of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU)-Youth Wing.

ASATU-Youth Wing is a community-based youth organisation comprised of youth leaders in the 179 communities of Anambra's town union leadership.

The governor, who was represented by Mr. Patrick Aghamba, the Commissioner for Youth Development, stated that his administration has a solid youth programme for Anambra.

He stated that youth-based organisations remained crucial to the agenda's achievement.

Soludo asked them to make themselves relevant in their respective areas by ensuring that the positive messages of his administration's "solution agenda" reached the grassroots level, and he promised to provide them with the necessary support.

The governor urged synergy between ASATU-Youth and other youth-based organisations, such as the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the Youth Wing of faith-based organisations, the Boys Scouts, and other recognised groups.

"You should complement each other and avoid any type of confrontation or struggle for power," he advised.

The governor congratulated ASATU-Youth Wing on their calm and orderly election and wished the new executive a prosperous term.

Mr. Ken Okoli, the new president of ASATU, stated in his acceptance address that the organisation would continue to work with traditional rulers, Presidents General of Town Unions, and the government to maintain peace and constructive growth in the communities.

Okoli, the coordinator of the "I believe in Anambra" project, stated that they would also play their role as citizens by ensuring that the government was responsive to the desires of the people.

He complimented Soludo for placing a high value on ASATU-Youth by appointing its members to the positions of Commissioner, Local Government Chairmen, and assistants in his government.

"We must assist the government in achieving success; if the government fails, we have also failed.

"We will promote the message and acts of good government throughout Anambra's 179 communities," he stated.
