Lawyer petitions Ugwuanyi over Enugu paint factory demolition

A lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, has requested the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to investigate the claim made against a businesswoman, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, over the destruction of a paint factory in the state.

In a petition sent to the governor through his law company, Ume said that Kennedy-Ohanenye plotted the destruction of Legacy Paints Ltd.

The attorney stated that his client legally owns the ultramodern paint factory located at Plot M4, Cattle Lairage Site in Emene, Enugu State, which is valued at N1.3 billion. He stated, "The Enugu State government, through the state's Ministry of Lands, validly granted Statutory Certificate of Occupancy No. CAL/07566, dated November 25, 2013, and registered as No. 5, Vol. 126, Land Registry, Enugu, for 99 years, to Dezern Nigeria Ltd in respect of a commercial parcel of land located at Plot M4, Cattle Lairage Site, Emene, Enugu State."

"It is also reflected in the records of your state government that this company applied for and received the required plant building approval."

In accordance with the state government's strategy of promoting the indigenous industrialization of the state, they erected and opened an ultra-modern paint manufacturing factory at a cost of N1 billion soon thereafter.

Ume stated that despite the ongoing court case, Kennedy-Ohanenye was supposedly in charge of its demolition on December 22, 2022.
