On Friday in Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu signed the N167 billion state budget for 2023 into law.

The governor presented the budget proposals to the state’s House of Assembly on December 15.

He said that the “Budget of Consolidation and Transition’’ would consolidate the achievements of his administration in various sectors.

Mr Ugwuanyi expressed delight that the House of Assembly gave the budget proposal expeditious consideration and approval and reiterated his administration’s preparedness to begin its implementation from January 1, 2023.

“This is also the last time I will be assenting to the full year budget of Enugu State as governor,’’ he said.

He thanked the House of Assembly for responding to the imperative of accelerated consideration and approval of the budget.

“I acknowledge the dedicated Clerk and other staff of the House whose contributions to the legislative business, though invaluable, are largely unsung,’’ he said.

Mr Ugwuanyi enjoined the people of Enugu to remain prayerful and toe the course of peace, wishing them a prosperous New Year.

Presenting the approved budget for the governor’s assent earlier, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Edward Ubosi, described it as “a wonderful and realistic budget’’.

He said critical sectors such as works, agriculture, education and health and water resources got huge allocations.

“It shows that you (Ugwuanyi) are prepared to complete all the works you started and the ones you promised the good people of Enugu State.

“It is a very commendable and it shows that the budget is a very realistic one,” Mr Ubosi said.
