Court threatens to arrest Buhari, Lawan, Malami over Lauretta Onochie's NDDC appointment.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reminded President Muhammadu Buhari, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, and Lauretta Onochie, Chair of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), of the repercussions of disobeying a previous restrai

Recall that the court had issued an injunction prohibiting the National Assembly from vetting and approving the nominations of Ms. Onochie and Chief Samuel Ogbuku as chairperson and managing director (MD) of the NDDC, respectively.

 


Justice J. K. Omotosho, the presiding court, ordered that all activities in the lawsuit brought by Ama Etuwewe (SAN) Co. be suspended pending the outcome of the case.

 


"Take notice that if you do not comply with the instructions in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and may be sent to prison," the warning stated.

 


In addition, the court prevented President Buhari from swearing in Ms. Onochie and Mr.

 


Recall that despite Etuwewe's lawsuit requesting that the terms of the NDDC Act be adhered to, the National Assembly last week vetted and affirmed the duo as Chairman and Managing Director of the NDDC, respectively.

 


The lawsuit asserted that it is time for the Itsekiri ethnic nationality, the largest oil-producing community in Delta State, to produce the NDDC board chairman and managing director.

 


After reading the affidavit and hearing the plaintiff's attorney, the sitting judge, Justice Omotosho, adjourned the case to January 11, 2023.

 


Tuesday, despite the court ruling, the Senate approved Onochie and Ogbuku as chairman and managing director of the NDDC, respectively.
