The accident happened around 5:20 a.m. on Saturday and involved two vehicles: a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with the licence plate number AGL552JT and a commercial Daf truck without a licence plate number.
It was said that eleven people were involved in the crash, including four adult men, four adult women, and three young girls. Eight people were hurt in different ways.
A roadblock is said to have been the most likely reason for the crash.
An eyewitness said that the Daf truck broke down early on Saturday morning. While it was being fixed, the Toyota Hiace bus crashed into the parked truck.
In a statement, Margaret Onabe, who is the Assistant Sector Public Education Officer for the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State, confirmed the event.
Onabe said that the rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command took the victims to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu, where one adult male and one female child were confirmed dead and others were being treated.
She also said that the bodies were taken to the mortuary at the hospital.
She said, "The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command took the victims to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu, where one adult male and one female child were confirmed dead and others are getting treatment." The bodies of the people who died were taken to the same hospital mortuary.
"The rescue team is still on the ground making sure that the crash doesn't cause any more traffic problems."
Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, who is in charge of Anambra State, sends his condolences to the families of those who died and his prayers to those who were hurt.
"He warned drivers very seriously to pay full attention to driving, pay attention to their surroundings, give enough stopping distance, and make sure their headlamps and brakelights work."
