FRSC deploys 804 in Enugu, warns against night travel

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 804 men to Enugu's transit and interstate corridors.

The FRSC in Enugu State has 567 regular marshals and 237 special marshals, according to Sector Commander Joseph Toby.

Toby said the deployment was part of "Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes" with the theme "Avoid Speeding, Overloading, and Unsafe Tyres to Arrive Alive." Corps workers would work 24/7 on road corridors, he said. 13 patrol vehicles, 2 patrol bikes, 1 ambulance, and 1 tow truck have already deployed, he said.

The operation will run for 25 days, from Dec. 20 to Jan. 15, 2023, and FRSC officers will be on traffic-clogged highways and axes of the state.

The commander said two command trucks have been sweeping highways for two days to ensure free traffic flow this season.

"We are fully mobilized and charged with ensuring smooth and hitch-free journeys for all Nigerians entering Enugu State or using it as a transit route to other states." "We're visible in all the major and vital transportation corridors and bottleneck flash points, and our medical and rescue teams can help any Nigerian in need. "Our main goal is to ensure the free flow of traffic, which we're doing by eliminating blockages and broken-down vehicles from road corridors in the state. "We won't ignore willful violations of traffic regulations or activities that injure other drivers or cause unnecessary delays," he stated. He also advised road users to be cautious and tolerant while they traveled to see family in the state or country.

Enugu State is a significant transit state, hence I urge South-East residents to avoid night travel. “The driver is human, and nature can cause him to nod asleep while driving, causing an accident. “When a vehicle breaks down at night or its occupants are sick, it will be hard to get help,” he cautioned.
