They said he was only looking out for himself and his family, which hurt the whole zone.
At a press conference on Tuesday in Umuahia, the people involved said that Kalu was helping his younger brother, who is in a different party, run for governor against the APC candidate for governor, Chief Ikechi Emenike.
Chief Kingsley Okorie, a spokesman for the group, said that the former governor is "campaigning against the APC candidate for governor and asking his constituents to vote for his brother, who is in the APP."
"At a number of town hall meetings, he tells us to vote APC for the president and the national assembly, but APP for governor," he says.
Concerned Members of Abia North APC said it was pulling its support for Kalu and that he would pay a high price for being a political traitor.
The group promised to vote for all other APC candidates in the 2023 elections, but they also said they would work against the Senate Chief Whip as a punishment for allegedly doing things against the party.
The stakeholders said, "We are no longer backing Senator Orji Uzor Kalu because he is helping his younger brother run for governor against the APC candidate, isn't interested in Abia APC activities, and fights for causes that have nothing to do with Abia North."
They said that Kalu caused the conflict in the Abia APC and didn't care about the growth of the party.
"We challenge him to show proof of the last time he went to an APC event in Abia, even though he holds a high position in the Senate on the party's platform."
"Then where is his love for the party or care for it?"
But when asked, Kalu said he wasn't working against the APC.
Senator Kalu, speaking through Sunny Idika, the spokesman for his campaign, said that he was fully committed to the APC winning in 2023.
"He is dedicated to his party, and he is working for the party to win." "If there is a problem in the party, he has tried to solve it and is still trying to do so."
Concerned Abia North APC members also said that Kalu wasn't doing a good job of representing the area in the red chamber. They said that they would vote for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, because he had shown that he was capable and competent.
"We are sad that since Kalu went to the Senate, Abia North hasn't had a strong voice in the upper house of Congress." When our voice is heard, it is usually to make people laugh.
"He hasn't done enough to fight for the people of Abia North." Instead, he is busy chasing shadows and supporting other causes that only help his political goals.
"Because Senator Orji Uzor Kalu did all of these things and more that hurt the party, we have decided to stop supporting him." This choice was made because he didn't listen to earlier warnings.
"We want to make it clear that we are going to work against his bid for a second term." We won't let him use our shared power to destroy our future. It's time to stop.
"We also think it's time for a more patriotic person who really cares about Abia North to represent the area in the Senate.
"After looking at the pasts of all the senatorial candidates for Abia North from all the political parties, we have decided to support Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who is running for the PDP." He needs to go back to the Senate to better represent Abia North.
