While mourning Ikenna's untimely demise on Sunday,30th October 2022 the deceased's wife, Mary, together with her sister-in-law, Chioma Aniebonam, and her spouse, reported that all their attempts to retrieve the deceased's remains have been fruitless.
In addition to this, they asserted that right from the moment the police became aware that Ikenna had given up the ghost, they secretly laid him to rest and refused to inform his family members of his whereabouts.
According to information obtained by news reporters, Ikenna, his wife and children, along with his brother named Chidubem, his parents, and few friends, were at home in Abatete in the Idemili North Local Government Area LGA of the state when some security officers raided the vicinity at around 4a.m in September 2022.
Ikenna's wife,a mother of four, who was interviewed by news reporters on Monday,31st October 2022,revealed that the security officers apprehended four people, including Ikenna and his brother, before dragging them away in their Hilux.
She noted,"it took us up to one week before we were able to know that the policemen came from Awkuzu SARS (SCIID Annex). When I took food there for Ikenna and Chidubem, the policemen collected it on their behalf".
"It was on the second attempt that the policemen told me Ikenna and Chidubem had been remanded in the Onitsha Custodial Centre. So, I visited the facility to see both of them, but surprisingly, it was only Chidubem I saw. When I asked after my husband, Chidubem told me he was dead",she asserted.
However,Chioma, Ikenna's sister, explained that her brothers were taken into custody after a neighbour filed a complaint to the police that the two of them, along with two other individuals, broke into his house while armed and stole his valuables.
Chioma's spouse named Sunday, stated that the man who penned the allegations against his in-laws sought no less than N1.5 million in order to settle the matter when the deceased's family members paid him a visit.
Furthermore,Sunday, however, reported that the police officers at the SCID Annex requested for N200,000 bail in order to free his in-laws, lamenting that they were about to raise the money before the news of Ikenna's death got to them by surprise.
He alleged, “the house where Ikenna and Chidubem lives and the building of the man that claimed they robbed him, is separated by a fence. How will they rob him? I know they can’t do such a thing. Both of them were arrested last month but Ikenna died in police custody as a result of torture".
“The police didn’t inform us that Ikenna had died; what we just heard was that they charged them to court. We also gathered that another person was used to represent Ikenna in court and they were all remanded in prison"
