Numerous lives and homes have been lost as Eha-Amufu has become a battlefield.
Just yesterday (Tuesday), Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi convened another emergency meeting of all the Eha-Amufu stakeholders, during which momentous decisions were made.
In a statement made available to Ndiigboworldwide by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike praised Governor Ugwuanyi for his efforts to find a solution to the violence in Eha-Amufu.
Despite the support of the state government, the group claimed that security services were not doing enough to salvage the situation in the area.
Okwu remarked that despite the complexity of the issues, "the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has done a great deal to restore peace and tranquilly in Eha-Amufu."
Sincerely, now is not the time to play politics. Since this sad episode began, we are aware of the several interventions made by the Governor. He remarked, "These efforts are commendable, and we appreciate the Governor's support of the people."
However, the Ohanaeze youth president urged the Federal Government to rein in the rampaging Fulani herdsmen.
In the past three weeks, more than one hundred persons of various ages have been murdered in Eha-Amufu.
We are disappointed that the federal government has not expressed sympathy for those impacted. This lends validity to the view held by some that the killers had government support.
"The time has come for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to convince the entire world that it does not provide covert assistance to the murderers. They must be prevented from wreaking additional destruction immediately.
It is difficult for us to grasp why the murderous herdsmen would seek to force our people off their ancestral land.
Even bizarre is the fact that they launch their attacks from Benue State and return unopposed. The security agencies must demonstrate to the world that they have nothing to do with what is occurring.
"We demand that the Federal Government-controlled security services disarm the Fulani herdsmen holding AK-47s and butchering our people for the umpteenth time," he stated.
