The DSS also said that it would not give in to intimidation or the attempts of shady people to bring it down. It also said that it would not let lies and tricks be used to mislead the public about important national issues.
So, it has told the people who are spreading the rumours to stop or face the consequences.
The warning comes after the Coalition of National Interest Defenders protested what they said was a plan by the service to frame Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, for terrorism funding against Nigeria.
The group also said that the agency had secretly filed a lawsuit against the CBN governor at a Federal High Court in Abuja to get him arrested.
Peter Afunaya, who is in charge of public relations for the DSS, put out the warning in a statement Monday night in Abuja.
Afunaya said in the statement that the Service will stay on task and give actionable information to the right people, no matter how they feel about it.
The statement says, "The Department of State Services (DSS) would like to make it clear that one of its jobs is to look into matters that have to do with national security.” It has always done this job in the best interest of the people of Nigeria as a whole. So, the service will continue to give actionable intelligence to the right people, regardless of how they feel about it. The DSS promises to stay focused and fair while doing its job professionally. It will not give in to propaganda, threats, or the desperation of people who are paid to hurt it. It also won't let people use lies and tricks to change how the public understands and thinks about important national issues.
"Because there aren't any issues with joining, the Service warns those on a wild goose chase to be careful about what they do." In the same way, it tells the general public to ignore the insults and rants of misguided people and not let themselves be used to making things worse.
Notably, these things should remind us of the famous saying, "You can fool some people some of the time, but you can't fool all people all the time." To put it simply, no one or group will stop the Service from doing its job for the country, its citizens, and the President and Commander-in-Chief. "Therefore, citizens are asked not to be used to stop or hurt the Service and its legal investigations.” Those who want to break the law will be punished according to the law."
