The election for the governor of Imo will be held on November 6, 2023, during the off-season. Emeka Ihedioha was fired by the Supreme Court on January 14, 2020, and Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was named the winner of the election. This was bad news for the PDP.
During a campaign event in Owerri on Saturday, Atiku called what happened in 2020 a "daylight robbery."
Atiku said that Imo had always been a PDP state, and he stressed that all of the governors of Imo had been PDP supporters.
He said that the party is ready to bring back Imo's reputation as a peaceful state by putting an end to the brigandage that has been going on there. He said that his trip to Imo was like a traditional homecoming and that he got his first traditional title in Igboland from Imo State.
He said that he knew Igbo people were smart businesspeople and that he would set aside $10 billion to help businesswomen and young people in the state.
Atiku added, "PDP is Imo, and Imo is PDP." We are about to go back to our old home base. "What happened in January 2020 was a daylight robbery, and I know the Imo people are ready to bring back their loving peace." "We know you are smart businesspeople, so we have set aside $10 billion to help women and young people with their businesses."
Ihedioha had told the people that if they voted for Atiku, their vote would be safe and no one would ever steal their vote again.
"No one will ever steal our votes again if we vote for Atiku." In less than 7 months, I paid all the pensioners what they were owed and got the government back on track. "I want you to tell my boss, Atiku Abubakar, how much you love me," the former Deputy Speaker said.
In his speech, Ifeanyi Okowa, the vice presidential candidate for the PDP, said that young people in Imo had shown that they were willing to vote for the PDP.
Okowa said that the PDP will help entrepreneurs and young people in Imo a lot.
He said, "Atiku will put aside $10 billion to help small businesses all over the country." He told the large group of people.
Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, who is the DG of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, spoke to the crowd and said, "Atiku is very familiar with the issues of Imo State, the southeastern states, and Ndigbo." He wants your help to get this country out of danger, poverty, and economic trouble. If you vote for him, you will be convinced that Atiku is the only candidate who can put Nigeria on the path to greatness.
Ifeanyi Okowa, the party's vice presidential candidate, was there, as well as the party chairman Iyorchia Ayu, the national secretary Samuel Anyanwu, former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, and a lot of other party leaders. The rally was held at Heroes Square.
