Abia State's police commissioner, Mustapha Mohammed Bala, has urged journalists to avoid further escalating situations and putting lives at risk by developing the practice of responsible information management.

The Abia CP, who took office at the end of October, made the call while meeting with officials from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, who were paying him a visit at the State Police Command headquarters in Umuahia.

He said that when information is handled correctly and responsibly during a crisis, lives are saved. On the other hand, he said, sensationalism and irresponsible handling of information have terrible results. So, CP Bala stressed the importance of good management information to save lives, end conflicts, and stop a crisis in its tracks. He also said that journalists should see themselves as an important part of security management.

He said that the media is an important part of election management and that the media and other security agencies must work together to help the country have a successful transition program in 2023.

"We can't do this job on our own, so we have to work with the media," he said. "There must be synergy between the partners in order to reach the goal of long-term security." "We will include you in everything we do." "We must work together to make sure that Abia is at peace and that the general election in 2023 goes well," the CP said. After becoming CP, Bala's first job is in Abia State, which has 32 Police Divisions and six Area Commands.

His last job was as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Imo State, where he was in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Owerri. Even though God's Own State is relatively peaceful, the new CP promised the people and residents of Abia that he would work hard to keep and improve the peace in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Abia NUJ, Chief Obinna Ibe, said that the delegation of correspondents was on the visit to formally welcome the new CP and renew their working relationship with the Command.

He promised that all of his members would work with the police to help keep the peace in Abia and make the state less appealing to criminals. Ibe asked the head of the police in Abia not to use the pervasive.

Misinformation and false information spread on social media can be used to judge how well Abia journalists are doing their jobs. He said that the influx of unprofessional people, who mostly work in the social media space, has made journalism harder and hurt the business of getting, controlling, and managing information.

Still, the Correspondents Chapel Chairman said that, as core professionals, the Correspondents would not waver in doing their jobs according to their professional ethics for the good of society as a whole.
