Senator Matthew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo South), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, said on Tuesday in Abuja that the threat had to be made because the Director had not shown up after three invitations.
Urhoghide said that the committee sent a notice of appearance to the ministry on October 20, 2022, and that the ministry got the letter on October 21, 2022.
The ministry was also supposed to tell all the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), like the Police and Armed Forces, about the release.
He said that on December 8, 2022, another letter was sent to the Ministry about the N113 million in salary increases for JAMB that was missing.
The office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) told the committee that JAMB got the N113 million in May 2017 for salary increases.
Mufutau Bello, who is the Director of Finance and Administration for JAMB, told the committee that they did not get the N113 million. He also said that if they had gotten the money, it would have been spread out over the whole year.
He said that it would be used by all MDAs that use CONLESS. If there isn't enough money in May, it will affect the rest of the year
Not happy with how things were going and how often the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and the Director of Cash Management of the Ministry ignored the Committee, Senator Urhoghide gave the Permanent Secretary 48 hours to show up and give the relevant documents to the Committee or face an arrest warrant by next week.
