He told the country that the military will stay neutral and not get involved in politics. He asked the people to keep trusting the military.
Mr. Irabor told reporters at the State House in Abuja that soldiers and officers are often bribed or put under pressure to try to change the results of elections.
He did say, though, that the officers will still work for free and fair elections, and efforts are being made to make sure that the staff follows President Muhammadu Buhari's order to be neutral.
He also said that the officers have been given rules to follow before, during, and after the elections.
In February and March of 2019, Nigerians will go to the polls to choose new state and federal leaders. President Muhammadu Buhari's second term ends on May 29, 2023, and there are 18 people running to replace him.
