The pan-Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has thrown its weight behind the senatorial ambition of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

On Monday, November 21, 2022, at his home in Ntighauzor, Obingwa, Abia state, the organization's secretary-general, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, informed the leadership of the Abia South Cultural Organization—the Ukwa Ngwa Professionals in Diaspora—of this.

The organization described the outgoing Senator representing Abia South, Senator Enyinnaya Harcourt Abaribe, as an Igbo leader, whose time has come to an end in the red chambers.

It promised to recommend Senator Abaribe for a federal appointment in the next political dispensation if he voluntarily withdraws from the race for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in 2023.

He said, “it’s not late for Sen. Abaribe to save his remaining political value by withdrawing from the contest and support Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who is more popular and diplomatic to attract more federal presence and projects to the good people of Abia South senatorial zone.”

Earlier, the leadership of Ukwa Ngwa professionals in the Diaspora, insisted that Senator Abaribe’s style of politicking has brought Ukwa/Ngwa people more woes, fewer federal projects, and more political enemies in his 16 years stay in the Senate.

The leader of the Group, Engr Onyegabueze Wogu, urged the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Scribe, who is from Abia South senatorial zone, to urge Senator Abaribe to emulate Senator TA Orji, who volunteered to quit the Senate after 8 years and allow Ukwa Ngwa people to experience a more diplomatic representation rather than his antagonistic approach to issues.
